Albemarle prosecutor Jon Zug is campaigning to unseat Albemarle Clerk of Circuit Court Debbie Shipp. Shipp has spent nearly four decades working in the clerk’s office, and she won the top job in November 2007. Zug says Shipp is not an efficient office manager, and he contends he could do better. Zug has highlighted state audits that criticized the way records are kept, including what happened to abandoned and unclaimed properties. Shipp says all the auditor findings have been addressed and her records are up to date. Both Shipp and Zug appeared live on the Schilling Show, but Zug chose not to appear with Shipp. Zug is asking Albemarle Democrats to nominate him for the office in 2015. Shipp was elected more than six years ago as a Democrat, and she has not revealed whether she will campaign as a major party nominee next year.
