A local lawmaker says he wants to help prevent major problems in Virginia’s mental health system. Albemarle Delegate Rob Bell has been appointed to a task force that will examine procedures for those with a mental health crisis. Bell is dismayed by last month’s incident that involved the late Gus Deeds, the son of State Senator Creigh Deeds. Gus Deeds was sent home by a community services board in Rockbridge County after its staff determined it couldĀ not find any psychiatric beds in a private facility. The 24-year-old stabbed his father the following day and then took his own life. Bell says Western State Hospital and other state-run facilities should be a default solution inĀ such cases.
