Supervisors Postpone Action On Photo-Red Expansion

As we reported last week, the Albemarle supervisors are considering putting another red light camera on 29 North. This one would be at the intersection of 29 and Greenbrier. No action has been taken at this time while the county waits for additional information. The board will take up the matter again in September. County Police Chief Steve Sellers told the supervisors last week that he recommends any red light camera, whether at Rio or Greenbrier, not be in operation while the construction at the Rio-29 interchange is going on. The company Redflex Traffic Systems installed photo-red at 29 and Rio four years ago. The woman who was the CEO at Redflex was indicted Wednesday on corruption charges. 54-year-old Karen Finley of Arizona has been charged with fraud and bribery. Finley is accused of funneling about $600,000 in cash and other benefits to a man who helped Redflex get a contract in Chicago.
