Agriculture Census Figures Show Virginia Farming Remains Important

The latest agriculture census shows Virginia has more than eight million acres devoted to farming. That’s 2.4% more than the farmland total from the 2007 census. The average value of agricultural products sold per farm exceeds $81,000, and the average age of the principal farm operator is 59 and a half. Livestock accounts for $2.4 billion of the Virginia farm economy.
