Route 29 Advisory Panel Considers Options

A diverse group that wants to find a solution for the traffic congestion on Route 29 keeps plugging away. Former VDOT Commissioner Philip Shucet has told the group roughly 15% of the daily traffic originates beyond Charlottesville and Albemarle. Shucet had a dialogue Thursday with City Councilor Kristin Szakos about setting up express lanes on the most congested stretches of local highways. Szakos, Mayor Satyendra Huja, and Jane Dittmar of the Albemarle Board of Supervisors are members on the Route 29 Advisory Council. Huja sees any design that prohibits left turns as a deal breaker, because it would harm existing businesses. The other panel members are from places such as Warrenton, Culpeper, Lynchburg and Danville. The group will meet again April 24th, and try to agree on recommendations they can send to Richmond.
