AAA-Virginia wants drivers to use common sense when they park a car during the dog days of summer. Spokeswoman Tammy Arnette says more than 600 children have died from heat stroke since 1998 after they were left inside a locked car. It takes a core temperature of just 107 degrees for a child to suffer brain damage. Arnette says daytime temperatures in July and August can also be brutal for any pets that get left in a car.
