Rock veterans The Doobie Brothers are giving their classic hits a country makeover by collaborating with Toby Keith, Brad Paisley and the Zac Brown Band for a new tribute album.

The “Black Water” hitmakers have been working on the project in Nashville, Tennessee and a slew of guests, including Chris Young, Sara Evans, Jerrod Niemann and Love and Theft, have also been stopping by to lend their vocals to the revamped tunes.

Details of the duets have been kept under wraps, but The Doobie Brothers frontman Tom Johnston reveals fans won’t have to wait too long for the album’s release.

He tells Billboard.com, “There are a couple of nuts and bolts that still need to be tightened, but it’s pretty close (to completion).”

And Niemann is excited about introducing a new generation of country listeners to the Doobie Brothers.

He says, “What I’d like to accomplish is showing country music fans just how much influence the Doobie Brothers really have on country music today.”
