The original Primus line-up will release its first album since 1995 later this year.

Les Claypool and his co-founders will release “Primus and the Chocolate Factory” on Oct. 21. The album will be a remake of the soundtrack to the 1971 film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

Claypool says he was just looking for an excuse to wear a purple velvet waistcoat and a brown top hat for the next 18 months.

Claypool says that film was very influential to him musically and he’s always wanted to work a cover of “The Candyman” into Primus sets.

He says they plan to sell Primus chocolate bars on the tour, which begins Oct. 22 outside Philadelphia.
