The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. for the entire Newsradio 1070 WINA listening area. The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Charlottesville, Albemarle and all surrounding jurisdictions.
The Albemarle Supervisors have endorsed a replacement of the Advance Mills Bridge, as proposed by state highway officials. The supervisors voted 5-0 Wednesday night for a resolution that supports VDOT's plan for replacing the structure. VDOT's Allan Sumpter (pictured) says the majority of those who spoke during a July 8th public hearing supported the agency's plans for a new Advance Mills Bridge. The existing structure was closed in April 2007. Inspectors found the old bridge had a high level of deterioration.
