It’s Only Rock and Roll
Oh, the head-scratching irony. It occured to me on my way to work one day last week that we here at 97-5/3WV sure do get a lot of calls from some very conservative republicans. No irony here, right? Well, think about this: we’re a classic rock station. Got it now? Classic rock! It was formed and embraced by liberal democrats called hippies back in the sixties.
So how did the republicans come to love the classic rock? I have no idea. If you’re a conservative – you should be offended by the music that we play. It’s all about sex, love, drugs and freedom from “The Man“. This is not the conservative way.
And speaking of drugs, we sure seem to have a lot of marijuana advocates calling us and leaving comments on our Facebook page. You think Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich are smoking doobies while driving (or being driven) to work every day? Are they telling their drivers to turn up the Led Zeppelin while listening to their classic rock station? You think John Boehner is tooling around the farm on a mid 90s four wheeler and sipping on a bottle of Beam every weekend?
