Being Weird is easy – Being Funny is Hard!
Being Weird is easy – Being Funny is Hard!

I thought I was just going to cruise through Improv Class (offered by Live Arts) and maybe sharpen up my skills while being the star of the class, right? (SFX:Buzzer) WRONG!

Turns out that I’m completely out of my comfort zone. Do I even have a comfort zone? Sure. Right here in the studio or at home. You see, this is why I’m taking the 8 week course. I’m not so good in front of other people – both friends and strangers, yet for some reason I feel the lure of the stage. Whether it’s hosting a live event or performing as a musician. I envision myself doing amazing things like making people laugh or creating art on the spot, yet I’ve never really gotten over my shyness.

Now, I know that some people think that shyness is a sweet trait in a person, but it’s really not. It’s just lack of self confidence and it can be debilitating to a person who likes to create. I’m hoping this class will release me from my shell and allow me to start trusting my instincts when it comes to doing this show every morning.

If you’re curious about what it’s like to take an improvisational class, it’s like going back to high school, but you don’t recognize anybody and your not wearing pants.
